Devotion 2.42/94: Daniel 5:28: Writing

Presented to River Street Cafe,  03 March 2017

Read Daniel 5:5-6, 26-28

This warning to the Chaldeans shouldn’t be seen as spiteful, spurious, or surprising. Some have said warning is too little too late but the truth is the whole book of Daniel to this point has been about God giving them every encouragement, to turn to him and be saved. Chapter 1, after using King Nebuchadnezzar and the Chaldeans to remove Judah from the land, God sends them top advisors who are set apart as holy. Chapter 2, God through Daniel reveals and interprets the prophetic dream that He has given the king. Chapter 3, God shows the king through Shadrack, Meshack, Abendego, and the fiery furnace that God alone is worthy of worship and in Chapter 4, when Nebuchadnezzar becomes so full of himself as to believe that what has been accomplished through him was actually accomplished by him, the Lord extends him grace, mercy, and opportunity to be humble, submit to the Lord and experience forgiveness and salvation.

Just like God, time and time again, offered salvation to the Chaldeans here, He earlier repeatedly offered salvation to Judah before removing them, and even before that He gave 400 years notice to the Amorites before removing them from the land (cf. Gen 15).

God today is giving us the same warnings. God offers that same salvation to us. God loves you even as much as he loves the Chaldeans, the Amorites, the Israelites, and the Judeans. If we are living outside of His Salvation in some way it is not too late. Just like He offered the others salvation, so too with us today. If there is any way that we have been weighed and found wanting, I invite us to bring that to the Lord. If we are here today, it is not too late to read the writing God has written on the wall of our lives, to read it, heed it, and live out that glorious salvation here, now, and forever. All we need to do is open our eyes, lift our hearts to the Lord and experience His Glorious Salvation.

In what ways has God been writing about His Salvation on the walls in our lives and encouraging us to follow Him?
